I am currently on holidays in Corsica. Nice island but a dearth of garages and mechanics. Anyway let me recount my current problems. A bit of history will put my current predicament into some context. A few months back my cam belt went, some rockers damaged etc. anyway the guys putting it back together had issues getting compression. They'd obviously never done an alfa cam belt so I kindly got pointed them in this direction, where you guys told them how to fit it correctly. All was well until I noticed that my fuel filter had developed a leak around the o ring a few weeks back. My local mechanic next door replaced the fuel filter and said that he noticed that one of the bolts on the injector had not been fitted correctly or at all by the previous garage and he said diesel was flowing all over the place. He duely refitted and tightened it. All was well and car running fine when I set off for France two Saturdays ago, however about 275 miles into the journey I get the 'get engine checked message'. I was in the outside lane and immediately pulled into the inside lane , 30 seconds later I lost total power, power steering went just as I pulled into the hard shoulder. Diesel all over the place, but engine refused to start and roadside mechanic and I couldn't initially find what the issue was. Later on when we retried turning over the engine I noticed diesel gushing out from the top nut of the bendy pipe that feeds injector number two. Typically no garage was open on a Saturday afternoon so I had to stay overnight get a car hire arranged and get it towed to the local alfa garage who then replaced this pipe. I returned the 250 miles and collected my car. All appeared well, until I thought that I could smell diesel again, thinking it was just me being hyper sensitive nose smelling the diesel from the previous spillage. Again today after a few hours driving I thought I could yet again smell diesel, 10 minutes later I got the same 'get engine checked message'. I pulled over and noticed that diesel was now leaking from the top nut of the pipe that fed injector number one.
I am now in Corsica and am some distance away from a garage of any kind let alone an alfa garage so was looking for some advice before I entrust the car to another set of mechanics who may not know what they are doing.
Is there a deeper problem as I am suspicious that two pipes can have developed leaks in quick succession given my recent history.
The car is currently stuck on the side if the road about 10 mins drive from the rental house. My missus thinks the car is going to die and be buried here in Corsica. It has done 110k miles and she feels it has a spell cast on it and should be laid to rest. I want to give it another chance. It has had over £1100 spent just on repairs in the last 6 months and can't be worth more than £2750 with everything running fine.
Sorry about the War and Peace length piece above but i need to at least get home in it if possible.
All help greatly appreciated. Help save this Alfa- (think Ferris Bueller's day off)I need all the support you guys can muster otherwise my bella is going to end up as a static chicken coop in the Corsican sunshine. No Alfa deserves this fate.
Ps apologies for the less than precise technical descriptions above as you might have guessed I'm not the most mechanically minded.
