So does that mean you now have no phone function? If so I can't see how that is an improvement on the factory system.
Correct. It depends what you're after, really. With my phone connected to the head unit, it can do all incoming parts (read my messages/hear incoming calls) through the stereo, it just doesn't have the mic function anymore, so I can't reply. If the message requires my attention, I'll pull over and make a call (I spent enough years doing this that it's not a huge deal, though admittedly, it's not perfect now). That however, is very
rare and I'll just wait until I've finished driving.
The 'upgrade' referred to the stereo side of it (as I said, I found the 'Me' part woeful). I was after a double din unit, and while I was searching for one, a friend had one for sale at a price I couldn't ignore. I knew it didn't have Bluetooth, but weighing that up against the stereo functions and setup, that didn't matter too much.
As I'm guaranteed to use the stereo for music and podcasts every day, that part was more important to me than Bluetooth, which I can find 3rd party solutions for. What I'll likely do though, is upgrade the HU further to one with Bluetooth in the future. So far though, it's been quite a non-issue.
I hope that clears that up
