Alfa Brera 2.2

2.2jts and 1750TBi swap

More engine woes. I think i have a failing cranshaft/ main bearing. There's a noise that sounds like wheel bearing that is consistent with engine speed that goes away whilst coasting in neutral or clutch in. It's worse under load.

The gearbox has just been refurbished, and i had the timing chain done.

Don't laugh, but next sentence is serious. I'm running out of patience and money

Rather than going the ball ache of stripping the block, I'm investigating replacements. At this point, I'm considering swapping the 2.2 out for 1750 TBi unit, but can think of a few reason's why not.

Anyone attemped or researched this before?

Anyone know wher I could source either engines new or recon?

The Wife says I'm a star, in that I'm quite dim & distant.

If you're thinking on bolting on a 1750 Tbi will you need a new gearbox as well, different ratios.

Also that timing belt is at 100k KM/4year (And it uses same waterpump as Twinspark......)

Id get the gearbox checked. There was a similar fault on the forum not long ago and ended up being the flywheel friction plate I think. If its just been refurbished it should still be under warranty

That's a classic symptom of a clutch release bearing. It's not your crankshaft main bearings.
