After owning my Alfa GT 1.9 for 3.5 years of which time the only issues i had was (split Turbo pipe & failed brake peddle switch) I sold it and went for a 159 2.4 Ti.
Now, I know the Turbo whistle issue has been discussed before not just on here but also for many other makes of Diesels with mixed responses.
But i'm asking all the fellow Alfa drivers there advice/experiences - so background is:
58 plate, 52k, full service history, did have just DPF removed and delete but previous owner put it back on before sale.
The car has the police siren/whilst sound in line with the Turbo spooling up and down, seems louder when cold but fades when the engine is warm. You can hear it when stationary giving slight revs or at slow town driving 10-20mph between 1500 - 2500revs. My GT's didn't sound as loud as this.
I had my wife drive past me at a steady 30mph & then accelerate past me and I couldn't hear it.
I looked at a few 1.9's & 2.4 & most had a similar whilst as well when pulling away.
Performance seems fine and no smoke from the exhausts when left running while warm. I've checked the lower turbo pipe for splits or looseness but that seems OK & also the plastic pipe at the top which moves a little when pulled upwards and I checked the connecting bolts (4 hexagonal) and they seemed tight.
I've attached a clip of the sound in question (while the car was up to temp) and would like to know your opinions....is this normal? does yours do it, did yours do it and then fail.
Will i regret selling the GT?
Any help/advise, reassurance would be appreciated
