Bella is on the road Again!
Gearbox has been completely rebuild with 8 new bearings and new seals
Fitted a new clutch, flywheel and CSC / throw out bearing
All parts are LuK / Valeo
Gear Bearings of 5 + 6 gear was damaged also the bearings at the drive shafts
The gearbox made noise no matter what gear I drove in, but especially 5 + 6th gear gave a high-pitched sound
The process requires the entire subframe removed, driveshafts disconnected etc., etc.
The subframe had a slightly rusty surface, but nothing serious as it has previously been treated for rust
I sanded it down with a wire brush and gave it a thorough DINITROL waxing.
The hardest part was removing and installing a bolt in the starter which is impossible to get to - think we spent an hour on this bolt
It also took alot of time to bleed the clutch
The clutch pedal would not return to it's starting position. We tried both suction and pressure, but ended up having to push/pull the pedal up and down 200 times:-)
The whole operation to remove and mount the gearbox takes at least a day and is a major task. I'll never do it again, even though we were two on the job
... it is a joy to drive the car again - no noise just pure pleasure
Gearbox out, rope keeps the radiator fixed
We used a support bar to hold the engine
Old clutch and DMF
Clutch was not particularly worn - but DMF rattles slightly
Old Clutch & DMF removed
Always use new stretch bolts when changing the DMF.
Torque 145-175 Nm (1.9 JTDm)
The CSC is inside the clutch and mounted on the gearbox shaft.
It is important to change the CSC when you have the gearbox out
