Sudden rough idle 159 2.2 JTS 2006
Hoping someone can give me some pointers on this odd one. Drove down road all fine, stop at shop start up again and anything below 1200 RPM like running on 2 cylinders. Under way at revs above this runs fine. Engine management lit up after 10 min also display saying check engine. MOT and bit of brake work track rods at garage day before, took it back, (know them well used for years) and quick diagnostic check/ code clear. Can't remember codes but error on cam sensor exhaust side and something about misfire cyl 2/3. Ordered cam sensor and should be here Mon to fit and take it from there. EM light back on after 5 min.If sensor fault how comes it runs ok above idle? Read up on here and chain stretch mentioned a lot, also cam solenoid fault as possible cause. What do these do and are they the two units standing up vertically on left side of cam cover? Garage mentioned possible cause as coil packs too. Any views on that? Looks like one complete unit right across top between cams, correct if so assume can't change individual pack for each cyl?
Anyway back to garage Mon to fit cam sensor and check codes again, hoping this is a fix but have a feeling not! Is it possible that either of codes flagged not related to problem I have now, just ECU logged historical glitch from the past at some point?
All advice appreciated, off on holiday in 2 weeks and need car reliable by then.
By the way love this car to drive, had it about a year and still puts a smile on my face. 105,000 mls but good service history when I got it and no problems so far apart from normal wear /tear items. Update once cam sensor fitted.
