Epic road noise (Maybe slight exaggeration)
I've always noticed a decent amount of road noise in my 159 but lately it's gotten worse. I think it is the tyres even though there is decent tread left. The car is a Ti with eibach 30mm springs which has given me 2.5 degrees camber. The car has most of its weight running on the inside tyre edges, is this likely to cause the excessive noise over time?
I've only noticed it really bad after I had my wheels refurbed and instead of putting on the tyres from the front back there, I mixed' n' matched to give me the longest duration and most even tread balance. It's got to a point where my wife's Astra is way more refined noise wise.
I've also noticed a slight wining coming from the front which sounds like a wheel bearing starting to fail and some rattling around the dash. Wind noise seems to be very minor with a very faint whistling around the drivers mirror at speed.
Both my front wheel liners are past their best and I'm wondering if this could cause some extra noise?
All this is adding up to a fairly miserable driving experience. I tried turning the radio up but I find to overcome the road noise completely the radio is on way too loud and is actually impeding my senses by drowning out all external noise which makes me feel unsafe as I'm not audibly aware of what is going on around me. This also makes for a tiring and unpleasant journey so lately I find the most comfortable way to travel is to turn the radio off!.
I suppose what I'm getting at is I know Ned from Autolusso supplies the camber adjustment kit, to those that have had the mod done have you noticed a reduction in road noise with the camber set correctly?
A little bit of a rant over. I still enjoy this car and hope to get to the bottom of this to allow me even greater enjoyment out of such a fantastic but frustrating car!.
