New owner takes 159 V6 sw to the Lake District....
So after more than a year of searching 159 SW V6 Q4 and only seeing 1 advert and not having the cash I see another well maintained low mileage early 06 plate for sale. I buy it despite spending a fortune on restoring an ultra low mileage 156 selespeed sport wagon (finally sold it today for the price of a kebab).
So what do you do when you have the nervousness of owning a new (old) Alfa? Treat is nicely, only venture to the shops until you're sure it won't blow up (I've had five 156's, one blew up in the first week). I decided to drive 1000 miles in 4 days on some of the UK's most hardcore roads including hardknott pass. So how did it do?
Yes the car is flawed, heavy, thirsty, GM engined, huge, notchy changing gear BUT once you learn it's ways, when to floor it, appreciate the weighted steering, solidity etc it was made for the adventure. Problems? I got carried away over a hump and bottomed out, the VDC was sensitive for a day after but has stopped since. It was a workhorse, bikes on the roof, fast but the star of the show for me was the Q4's grip, I've owned a Quattro and this was better.
So some good news for the forum and pictures attached (yes the alloys are boring).
The the moral is, break the bank forget the time you had an Alfa but thought 'what if' buy the one you want, spend £500 to tax it, worry, drive it and worry no more.
