I'd happily consider a 1750TBi - problem is they are outside my budget. Only seen one for sale via Veloces and that was £14k+, my budget is closer to £9k including the £5k for my car.
I would not buy from a Dealer, the markup is very significant on what you pay in a private sale
I bought a 159 a couple of months ago, and there were around 25% more cars on sale then than now, guess it must be a seasonal thing, it took me almost 2 months to find a good car, i could have gone to a dealer, but i would have paid a 25 % premium at least, and the dealer cars all had 10k to 20k more miles (mid 40s/50s as opposed to mid 30s)
Be patient and the right car will come up for sale private in your budget or significantly under it, depending on which engine you go for, i'd go for the 2.4 or 1.75 if you can, they offer reasonable MPG and offer a fair bit of extra power over the 1.9 and 2.2
These cars are not lightweights, they are very well built, but quite heavy as a result, so ideally you want an engine with good power and a broad spread of torque that kicks in low down in the RPM range, which given your indicated budget i think you can easily get in a 2.4 and probably a 1.75 as well with a bit of haggling in a private sale.
