bad surprise today :-(
so I was in London for work today, once done I got back in the car to drive back to MK, turned it on, went to reverse and when I reached full lock on the wheel the aux belt started making an almighty noise and the steering went solid..
I switched the aircon off, revved it a bit and it seemed to cure it, but by then I know the belt needs changing of course.
I didn't love the idea of getting the car towed from London to MK, so I decided to drive it. I turned the aircon on again after a while, and after 5 mins, BING BANG KAPOW!!!!
There was a loud thump and the belt started howling again. I opened the bonnet but everything seemed ok!
I turned everything off, restarted the car and after a few seconds the howling stopped again.
I managed to carefully drive it back to MK without an itch, and I assumed it was just a case of having the belt changed, but when I went to brake to a stop and start again, there was a distinct clunk coming from under the car, like something moving in the undertray.
Something must have broken, but what? What does the aux belt power? Steering, aircon, alternator?
I'll take it to my local tomorrow morning straight away, but any input is always welcome.
