Considering a first Alfa, a 159
I've always liked Alfa Romeos, ever since I was a lad, I just really liked how they looked, even though I've only ever even sat in one once.
I'm currently driving a sports auto, CVT Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0L, 2008 model. I like this car, it handles nicely, and does everything I require, but the Alfa Romeo hangs about in the back of my mind.
I've narrowed it down to a 159, I want a biggish car, newish with low kms, which pretty much leaves me with the 159 as the only option. On top of that, I love that front end. So I have some questions:
1) Is it worth considering the 1.9L diesel? I'm fairly happy with the poke of my Lancer, but would not want to go any slower, in fact the Lancer struggles a touch with acceleration on an incline. Worth thinking about the 1.9L or just go for the 2.4L? I don't do many miles, so fuel consumption is not big thing for me.
2) Worth considering a Selespeed? My Lancer is a sports auto, but I drive it in full auto 99.999% of the time, plus my girlfriend would drive in full auto 100% of the time. I know the Selespeed has 'city mode', which is similar to a full auto gearbox, but is it a good idea to drive in this mode 90% of the time? I ask only because Selespeed models seem a little cheaper in Australia than full auto and also gives me more choice of models. I am happy to learn how to drive the Selespeed, but the car is likely to be in full auto most of the time.
3) If I buy privately, rather than from a dealer, is there red flag issues I should look for?
Input and thoughts most welcome.
