It must be the Turbo...General Question

I have begun to get a whistle / whizzing noise from the engine when I lift my foot of the accelerator.
It stops as soon as I accelerate again.
I think it must be the turbo.

Assuming I'm correct does anyone know what causes it?

Is it bad news and the prelude to a bigger problem?

I wouldn't have thought you would get the whistle from the turbo after lifting off the accelerator. Could just be a split pipe. Get someone to rev it for you while you've got your head under the bonnet. Really helps to find things.

i was going to say....if it's hissing, while you're not generating boost, then in all likelyhood, you are in fact losing boost from somewhere.
