How to remove glow plugs 2008, 159 2.4JTDM

2008 159, 2.4 jtdm 210

I am looking to test glow plugs and have been trying to find a good write up on how to remove the plugs, or just the black round cover on on the plugs. I can easily remove the electrical connections by opening the yellow clips and removing the electrical connection wire, but I am unsure what to do next. The round covers have a little metal clip which I have taken off, but the covers then don't seem to want to budge. Does anyone know if these are held in place, or should then just pull up

many thanks

This seems a good thread about them.

you may have to squeeze both sides of the plasitc connection and pull them off.

the glow plugs themselves will need a deep socket, im guessing size 15mm but ive never done them so could be wrong.

I broke one of the caps the first time I took them off. So to avoid that I fashioned a tool from an old 5 prong fork. The black cap has a small cut out on either side. I bent two prongs of the fork so they slip around the black cap into the two cut outs. You can then gently pull the cap off without snapping the top off.

Has worked well since.

Sounds a strange solution. But works for me.

All the best.

what is the reason to test diesel glow plugs one week before calendar summer ???...
Just put it once to specialist to replace them all because of time.
You may easily broke the plug. To extract broken one is disaster.

I put a long flat bladed screwdriver in the open ŽU` bit on the bottom of the black plastic and lever them up against the cam cover.

You need a 9mm long reach socket to unscrew them - not reliable to test resistance alone.
