going limp - how often do you suffer ?

Still really like my 159 but the experience is spoiled very occasionally when the car goes into limp mode from startup and the engine warning light comes on.

Normally clears straight away once the engine is restarted. Probably happens every couple of months.

Are others suffering with this ? What's the usual cause ?

If it's going into limp mode it'll have a stored code,
get a laptop an odb2 cable and MultiECUScan
(the free version will let you read and reset codes)

better to know for sure what the problem is than guess.
(there are things which are so common a guess is good enough, but limp from cold start is probably worth a proper diagnosis)

I sometimes get a warning light if I restart after a very short stop, but not usually with limp mode, the light goes off after a couple of restarts.

Funny you should ask. Had the car for 16 months and only recently experienced the Have Engine Checked light which is accompanied by occasional limpness. The car runs fine otherwise and when it does go into limp simply restarting the car resets it. This prompted me to get multiecuscan and a cable and the responsible error is to do with an invalid signal from the temperature sensor on the particulate filter. I was reading something earlier which said that in addition to potential engine damage triggering limp, faults which may affect emissions can also trigger it.
