My car has the complete kit with the front spoiler, side skirts and rear skirt as well. To me, while I fully get the 'chav' factor, what it does do is take away some of the visual bulk of the high tail. I know a few people who prefer the wagon over the sedan in standard trim and I'm one of them.
The designer did a pretty good job of integrating it into the overall styling, getting proportions to the boot lid length right. No aerodynamic benefit and it need its own brake lights as it blocks the rear window ones.
The front spoiler is more dubious in that you can see through the fake brake ducts, and it decimates the already poor approach angles (it doesn't help that mine's on Eibach Prokit springs).
