Help Urgent advise needed - buying Brera JTD

Hi guys,

Really keen to get some feedback on a situation I'm in. I went to look at an '06 Brera JTD last week and absolutely loved it! Evrything was clean, rust free, felt great, drove well and looked perfect. I did however pay close attention to the steering rack (I know of the issues), and at slow speed and when stationary it was making a crunching sound. I said to the dealer I would leave a deposit and buy it if when I returned the noise was not present. I was happy for either the fluid to be changed (currently red) or failing that working, the rack to be changed. He agreed.

I have just got a call saying that he has taken it to a number of Alfa garages (including Motormech Birmingham), and they said there is no issue and it is fine. They also said that they cannot change the fluid as it would then be contaminated as the old and new would mix due to never being able to properly flush the system.

I looked on the Selenia website and they state that the fluid should be GI/R (the green one?).

What's everyone's take on this as I am still very interested in the car but am worried about this issue

Agree, if you have doubts give it a miss.

If your paying a dealers price you should expect the car to be 100% in working order, otherwise you may as well buy private and save

Funny noises from the steering rack is not something I'd be happy with if paying a dealers premium
