My Experiences: Blue&Me with XCARLINK A2DP
Just in case this is of interest.
Alfa 159 with Blue&Me, upgraded to v5.6.
Fitted XCARLINK (iphone connectivity + control) with optional Bluetooth module for A2DP streaming.
Was a little hesitant about how to best stream from the iphone4s and if I was Paired with both Blue&Me and XCARLINK what would happen? Could go badly wrong, and was expecting to forget the Blue&Me pairing and lose voice control from the Alfa.
So - A2DP streaming from iPhone4s via xCARLINK:
It works but there is a noticeable difference in sound experience vs direct cable connection.
Should I be surprised? No, but I have same setup in Mazda 6 as differences are negligible between A2DP and cable... So I was a little miffed. Mostly lack of bass tbh, and if fussy like me - it's an issue.
But I mostly use iphone4s for streaming spoken word podcasts and audiobooks so this not a major problem perhaps..?
I have a spare 30Gb old iPOD so I connected this up to the iPOD cable on the xcarlink with my fav playlist on it, hidden in the glovebox.
iPhone is paired with both Blue&Me and XCARLINK.
On entering the car - Blue&Me tells me iphone is connected, then the ipod playlist starts playing from ipod via cable=better quality; [skip/pause steering controls work]. Before I set off if I want to listen to a podcast, I start the podcast app and press play, this pauses the ipod and uses a2DP to stream to the xcarlink. [Steering controls still work].
If I get a phone call, or press the Call button on steering wheel, Blue&Me wakes up, handles the call, pauses the podcast in the meantime. When call finishes the iPhone Podcast resumes.
If I wish to switch back to Music from the iPOD (during podcast) I can pause it but using the >> button on the steering, this switches back to the ipod.
So hierarchy/priority is:
1) Phone calls
2) iPhone (podcasts)
3) ipod music
I'm just so surprised that the thing works this well... Minimal cabling. Installed in about 30 mins once I worked out where to hide the xcarlink, and get behind fascia without causing damage.
