Just a quick 'Top tip' that may be of use to you if you're buying a car and you want to find out the VIN number that corresponds to the number plate... as well as basic stuff like car colour and type.
Just go here to the Fiat user manual lookup. and key in the number plate without any spaces
.... Fiat eLum - HOME
You should get a Capcha and then the VIN and car info from Fiat will pop up... and if it doesn't match run to the hills! For some reason it always shows all 159s illustrated as TI sportswagons (it is a Fiat system after all) so don't pay any attention to the pictures.
159 Lussos show up as ELEGANTE
159 TIs show up as SPORT PLUS
... so if you're the kind of person that wants to spend that extra for the TI version over the same Lusso model you can check before you get there (currently about £3-4k on a late low mileage 159 in May 14, they seem to be going up in price which is bizarre for an Alfa!)
I was stung when buying a 166 from a car supermarket... as HPI wouldn't tell me what the VIN was, and the supermarket quoted the wrong VIN and I didn't double check. Luckily I managed to fix it with the DVLA fairly simply as it was a transcription error on an imported car, but I think knowing the VIN is a useful thing...
Hope you find this useful!
