My M32 gearbox - apart and rebuilding!
Was getting concerned over the whining coming from the gearbox as it had become louder over the last month. Luckily, I have access to a ramp and a bloody decent mechanic! It only took three hours to drop the frame (not rusting thankfully), split the box and remove the three gear shafts. Have washed out the end case and inside of the gearbox bell housing.
Three bearings are shot so am going to replace all six, thoroughly clean all the gear parts, reassemble and use a fully synthetic quality replacement oil as recommended. A lot of work still to be done but hopeful the gearbox will be good for many miles to come.
No visible swarf in the box but could detect a trace in the oil. The magnet had a little stuck to it but all the shafts look clean. We'll be cleaning anyway as we replace the bearings.
Re-shimming could be interesting! Any pointers from those in the know!? New shims required?
Should be back on the road next weekend and I'll report back. Would recommend getting this done if you have any of the dreaded M32 symptoms!
Rockin' all over the road!
