I have a 159 LE with the roof aerial that supplies the fm, am, and Sat nav reception (I'm led to believe earlier or different spec cars have a combo of aerials using the rear and side screens?).
Here's the issue - radio on, switch to mw, works fine. But, wait about 10 seconds and then it abruptly cuts off, yet if you switch to fm after it has cut off and that is still working absolutely fine. The other variable is that it only does this with the engine running. If you do the same procedure without the engine running the cut off never comes, it just keeps playing!? When I say cut off I mean the signal - it just starts giving you white noise.
I've cleaned up the contact between the bee sting and the aerial base which made the signal stronger but didn't fix it. Likewise I checked the connection on the back of the radio and that was nice and tight. I also looked behind the drivers side c pillar to see if I could spot the aerial amp/booster I've heard about but couldn't see anything behind there.
I'm now stumped! Any ideas? It kind of feels as though something is switching at that point and failing which then cuts the power to the booster but I have no evidence to prove this, just trying to guess what it could be.
Any ideas? It's driving me bonkers now!
