Well it's been a few days since I had the remap, the car went about 280 miles without smoking after I'd reset the 'replaced DPF' in MUltiscan, clogging had only got up to 18%, so it might have been smokless for quite a few more miles. I ended up having a bypass pipe put on aswell, so a complete waste of time decoring my DPF and obviously I don't now have a functioning DPF should I need it in future. Nice work Al.
Spent a bit more than I intended on the works and had a bit of clutch slip coming off roundabouts pre remap, obviously this becomes a fair bit more apparent post remap, so I was a bit down about it all and I felt incredibly guilty having just put the blockers on a summer family holiday a few hours earlier. She is getting 2 new Sofas tho
So I'd got the remap thinking I could do a bit of lazy low speed driving, less gear changes and so I could boot it more if needed. It never really occurred to me that that style of driving would screw the clutch pronto, I just thought that was what a large part of the map was for. Gus offered some good advice on how to look after the clutch whilst having fun, but it was a bit hard to take in while I was thinking on top of the map/oil change bill, I'd need a new clutch whilst praying that with the DMF only being about 3000 miles old, might be okay.
There were times on slight inclines on the motorway where the car really juddered at about 75, felt like very rough road or wheels out of balance, I couldn't bury the throttle anymore because the juddering would get worrying. I build myself up for these things and when they don't work out as I thought, I get on a proper downer
i can't get hold of 2 Beru plugs for a week or so to replace the short NGK's, so still got the whitish blue smoke on start up that I've had ever since I decored the DPF. I've tried a couple of Wynnes additives, but to no avail. Let's hope it's not injectors.
I've been away with work a few days, read a few threads about how i should be using the car, finally sunk in what Gus was on about. So first thing I did when I got back last night was go out for a spin, not managed to get the clutch to slip yet, obviously I've been trying not to. What I have realised now is this car is ridiculously quick, the acceleration is so clean, it just keeps going. I've got to be so careful, cos it hits 80 so easily, similar to my V6 GT, but without the beautiful noise, I honestly couldn't believe the thing last night. The other thing it does is around town it will handle 3rd gear turning into junctions without dropping into 2nd- it picks up without stress, no judder, daft thing, but I'm well pleased about that.
So I've gone from wondering why I bothered with a remap, wasn't the car quick enough for me? Of course it was, it was a great car and it had way more power than I felt comfortable exploring. Now I'm thinking how the map has changed the characteristics of the car, it's got absolute mentalness, but it's still lovely and calm at 80 on the motorway. I just want to go out and drive it for the sake of it now
But I must be careful!
