159 1.75tbi Coolant level
I have a 1.75 tbi Ti. Not had it that long loving the car, but I have noticed something that has been worrying me. I had noticed some white smoke but only in cold mornings, bit more than I have seen on any previous cars I have owned. I also noticed the coolant was well below the minimum level when cold. So I was now paranoid I had a gasket issue.
However the car was due it's 42k service so I put it in to a local Indy alfa specialist for the service. I advised the mechanic about my concerns, and he said he would check for leaks etc. he assured me it was not a head gasket, and said that cars may loose coolant naturally (I've never noticed this with any previous car I've owned) when I picked the car up he said he had to put a litre of coolant in it, it was now sitting at max when warm and half way between max & min when cold. I checked it again a few days later and didn't notice any difference. However it has now been 2 weeks since the service and the level seems to have dropped a bid, half way between max and min when warm and slightly below min when cold. Seems too much of a drop in my opinion in that space of time, however I have seen posts where people have said to open the cap(when cold) to release pressure in the system?? Is this nonsense, should I just top it up or stick it back into the garage??
