Mine were rusty on a dec2006 car. I wire brushed the worst off used a rust killer then treated with detrox black thick wax and sprayed waxoyl inside, my rear sub frame is OK. But my front sub frame was quite bad too. I think there are now better products on the market for cavity filling, dextrox do one. I managed to do mine while still on the car, just get the back up as high as possible and removed the wheels, its not a pleasant job and y get covered in **** just wear old clobber. Took an afternoon to do both sides. Pretty bad for a newish modern car , they are not finished well and only have a very thin coat of black paint on, why the hell they didn't, galvernise them would have saved a lot of work ,when I bought the car didn't, think I,d have to rust proof it, that should be a thing of the past. But hey its an Alfa stands for 'Always Loved Forever Attention'
P.s don't, think that's the correct name of the rust killer. Dontros don't, Know
