Hope Alfa do a decent and swift job getting it sorted for you
Trouble is, I'm between a rock and a hard place on this. I had to make a decision at the roadside as to where I wanted it towed. If it went to the dealer and I was sure that the previous repair has some sort of guarantee then I'd be fine, but if there's no cover then I'd be stuffed. I've got an aftermarket warranty but it only covers labour rates up to £60/hour so I'd have to pay the additional £30+/hour the dealer charges, and it has an excess of £100 leaving me still well out of pocket.
Being a Saturday afternoon and so having no way of checking where I stood on this, I elected to have it taken to the local Alfa indie, where I'll only have the £100 excess to pay as their labour rates are within the limits of the warranty cover. Won't stop me having a good go at getting something back from ARUK though,
New turbo, full flush....and an oil pump....and get rid of it.
I never thought I'd hear myself saying this but "I think you're right there",
. Having had a long chat with young Stuart at McLennans, he says that he wouldn't touch a 1750 with a barge-pole. They've done several turbo replacements over the last year or so and recently had one in that had already had 3 new units fitted at the dealer before coming to them for it's 4th,
When it's running well, I wouldn't want anything else but I don't want to spend my whole time driving it worrying about every little noise it might make,
. Looks like I'll need to think of something cheap and not necessarily cheerful but simple to fix for my weekday commutes and dog-carrying duties, and bring forward my Lotus acquisition plans for that vital weekend adrenaline rush,
