I hate to have to say this, but the only car that could replace the dream of a Brera S that I had was an E92.....
After three Alfas in diesel guise, I was desperate to get into a Brera S, we sold the house, rented, then bought the new one. Absolute promise to myself that I would have an S as soon as all was sorted on the house front.
I was gutted to find it was utterly useless for my needs. I have two teenage boys and a wife, all of which have the full leg count, so a Brera in any spec was totally out of the window. Seriously upset.
So the search for an alternative coupe was on. Looked at a few, the VW SquashedGolf was a contender, then I saw the spec of the post 2008 E92 325i.
6 cylinder petrol, three litre, £200 road tax, 218bhp, space, comfort, fantastic drive. Sub ten grand, whats not to like?@
Since then the lure of an E92 M3 has been great.......even test drove one. Fantastic car in pretty much all respects.
Its not an Audi, so a good thing in my eyes, and the perceived image of the usual BMW driver has taken an upturn, so it was a decision well made.
As has been stated, all about compromise. Nothing out there touches the Brera in my eyes, I literally get emotional when I pass one, but it is a flawed car in many, many ways.
Good luck with the search. Certainly a good problem to have in many ways.
