AA report findings on 159
We'll i've had my AA inspection done on an Alfa 159 1.9 JTDM Lusso Sportwagon and here are the results...... The inspection results were supposed to confirm, to myself, whether to buy or not. But all I'm thinking about now is all the potential issues that it highlights....not good. Any advice??? The vendor insists (and has receipts that the dual mass fly wheel and clutch were repaired in September 2013)... Below is just a small summary of the report.
Observations - there is a slight rattle on engine switch off which can be symptomatic of Clutch/DMF wear developing, however the Owner states that this has been replaced recently and that the repair is still under guarantee.
Slight brake squeal was evident on initial drive away - this disappeared as the road test progressed
Slight Black Smoke was present during initial drive away under hard acceleration, this quickly cleared but if this should persist it may indicate filter/injector/turbo issues developing.
The Engine was warm/hot at the start of the inspection and therefore no cold start or cold running checks could be made. This factor is outside the control of the Engineer. You should satisfy yourself is this regard and arrange with the vendor for a cold start demonstration prior to purchase and to be aware of sluggish battery /starter motor / abnormal noises and/or exhaust smoke as these could indicate defects developing and/or Internal engine wear.
It is strongly advised that a Service plus any Time/Distance based additional operations as per Manufacturer's schedules e.g. Timing Belt Tensioners Guides Water Pump replacement / Auxiliary Belt / Engine Coolant/Brake Fluid /Pollen Filter / Key Fob batteries / PAS /Transmission Fluid change / Air Con Service / Tyre Aerosol / date sensitive First Aid Items- where appropriate/applicable - is carried out prior to Purchase and/or allowance is made when considering a Private Purchase.
Your attention is also drawn to any comments made in the Advice Warnings and Recommendations section.
These should be planned and budgeted for.
