Sticking pads

Got my car from a dealer a year ago and just had the front pads changed as the old ones were done to 1mm! (no dash warning for some reason). I have the smaller 305 mm MY2008 Brembo callipers. As soon as I drove out the garage the steering was more responsive and the car rolled a lot better. MPG has gone up by about 10%. It is apparent that I have probably been driving for a year with a sticking brake pad although this was not picked up when I had a health check at local dealer about 6 months ago.
I was wondering if this is a common issue and is there a logical reason as why the pads my stick with worn pads? Is it prudent to have the brakes stripped and cleaned in between pad changes? Are the pistons more prone to sticking when they start protruding beyond a certain distance?

unusual that they were both sticking, or was your car pulling to one side?
sticking pads normally means the piston in the caliper is not retracting fully, apart from that im not sure why they would stick :S

yeah, they both must have been sticking because the car certainly did not pull to one side when braking.

The inner pads are prone to sticking, really need stripped annually.

It's not very easy to spot without spending an hour on them.

They usually spin cold, bind when warm.
