This is a very good question and I have been thinking about the same myself. In fact, I bought my Audi TT without knowing it had a remap. The dealer hadn't realised themselves even though the car had an ABT logo in the back. The car also has an ABT rear spoiler, rear diffusor and sports exhaust so my guess is that the dealer thought the ABT logo was referring to these cosmetic changes (and that's what I thought also).
I only discovered it later, having purchased the car, when I went through all the receipts that came with it and there was one for the remap. However, being a car enthusiast myself it was a very pleasant surprise to realise there was a €1,250 ABT remap on the car!
Having said all this, I am wondering whether to mention this when it is time to sell the car. Like you say, it might put non-enthusiasts off. Obviously if someone asks, then I would say it, but is the best policy don't ask, don't tell?
