Well...the old Alfa stereotype actually happened!
Having owned my 159 since July 2011 and had no real issues, I thought all the stories etc were just rubbish and scaremongering...until this month!
Bought 09 plate 1.9 ti with approx 12k on the clock July 2011
Some warranty work done, whistling door mirror very annoying on motorway; tracking (dealer had a few goes at this); 'Womping' noise in low gears especially second - dealer looked at this a few times, ended up saying it's due to hollow driveshafts or something - hasn't been an issue to be fair; The odd squeak and rattle
I had mudflaps fitted to try protect the sides of the car from stones
About 3 months after getting the car..2 back tyres needed - should maybe have spotted that before buying, but they sold me it saying plenty of tread left, my bad.
So no real issues, usual service costs, four new tyres since I got it, new front pads. I put the car in to have timing belt and water pump done Jan 2013 @ 37k miles, massively early but I look after my cars - nothing major or scary, I was having it lucky!...
December 2013!..Car goes in for a health check @ indie specialist; new front disks and pads needed. Ok I think, that's probably not too bad, book it in to get that done along with full service Jan 2014....Then I ask them to have a listen to the gearbox, seems more noisy than I remember, 4th gear and 6th gear noises. Much to my horror after searching forums, what I hoped wouldn't be the diagnosis came true - gearbox had to come out to investigate possible bearing failure or maybe the DMF
So Jan/Feb 2014 (as I buy my first house just to add!)
Car goes in for service and front disks/pads, so that cost a bit. To add to that, two new front suspension arms needed
Gearbox had to come out, bearings replaced (thankfully I took out a warranty last year with carprotect - who btw I really do recommend! Never thought I'd say that, they got an engineer out and covered majority of these costs)
As gearbox is out, new clutch recommended due to wear signs on current one, DMF seems ok, so I say go ahead with new clutch - more money!
I also asked for handbrake to be tightened - they go to do that, cable is split...new handbrake cable needed!
To top it all off! Parking sensors intermittently not working and being italian.
Now I've spent a small fortune on it in the last month, and I'm just a bit fed up! How do you guys carry on after stuff like this?
Obviously ANY car can have issues, I'm under no illusion about this. But to have front suspension arms, gearbox, clutch, handbrake cable and parking sensor issues at 4/5 years old is shocking quite frankly! Especially how carefully this is driven
Anyone have good ways to complain to ARUK about this? email/post address?
