EGR partial blanking plate

Question regarding partial blanking plates without a remap done to the ecu:

If a blocked EGR valve would produce an EML light then why would a partially blanked EGR valve have any less likelihood of producing an EML warning, and more importantly wouldn't even partially blocking produce all the symptoms of a blocked EGR?

The partial blanking plate is this

I understand that this drilled void is supposed to be enough to trick the ecu I to thinking that all is well. But can anyone explain why this small opening won't be subject to blocking this causing a real blockage which would set off the EML?

I suppose eventually it could block up, but the idea is to let a lot less of the crap exh gas through the inlet keeping things a lot cleaner. And car will have more power too as oxegen burns better that e gas.

The plates with holes are an Alfa/Fiat part, so they are unlikely to cause an issue themselves.

The fully blank plates should only be fitted if you have already turned the EGR off in the ECU.

I've had this on mine since early 2013. Bought from my local Alfa dealers service department. Think it was about 7, so not much. Never thrown an EML warning in all that time. Though it still lets too much crap back through if my MAP sensor is anything to go by. But not for much longer
