Have attacked the front sub-frame over the last 2 days after hiring a ramp in a garage.
Hand scraped of the poor protection coating and given the frame a good scrub.
Machined with emery 4" and 2" flapper disks to show clean metal where required. Course to Medium grit discs.
Masked all the pipes / hoses etc that are not to be painted. Masking took the most time to do.
2 hand coats of marine primer at 50 DFT each. 4 hours cure time between coats.
2 hand coats of marine top coat at 50 DFT each. 3 hours dry time between coats.
Decided to use a Marine Primer ( Red ) and Marine Silicon Top Coat ( Black ) as if good enough for ships in sea water, then good enough for a Alfa on a road.
Well worth it in the end, luckily mine is not holed or really corroded, but now protected and will last the rest of its life. Rear sub-frame not really bad at all, but may consider doing in the future.
