The way I just have today!
If the car has failed with the same problem several times, and the dealer/manufacturer have been given reasonable opportunity to rectify the problem and hasn't, you are within your rights to reject the car as 'unfit for purpose'.
Very sadly I have had to do this today, as less than 100 miles after collecting my supposedly repaired Brera, the management light came on again today, and the car went in to 'limp-home' mode, and left me stranded 80 miles from home.
I rang the dealer straight away, and asked where I stood as far as rejecting it. 45 mins later he rang back to say Alfa UK had agreed to supply a brand new car due to the multiple problems I've had. 3 breakdowns in 7 weeks and being without the car for almost 3 1/2 of them!!! I found it a bit strange that they didn't quibble at all, it's as if they knew it was a lemon?!
They have found me an unregistered one to the same spec as mine, but with a CD changer, and I should have it before the weekend. This one's silver though, which I think looks good, and should be a damn site easier to keep clean than black!!
All credit to Alfa UK, and to my dealer Caledonia in Preston, they have been A1 all along, and have succeeded in keeping me happy, when otherwise I might have just sold the car and never gone near Alfa again, which would be a crying shame as i love the cars.
Maybe the rumours of vastly improving customer service are true, they are in my experience anyway.
