159 2.4JTDm owners advice
After the joys of having an alfa (see my last post) now for the reality. The car is now back at the dealers getting quite a few problems sorted out and they gave me a demo 2.4 with exactly the same spec as my own :-). The dealers actually offered to deliver the demo to my house and collect my own alfa, which i was chuffed with-they seem to be taking customer care seriously here in Belfast!
What I noticed immediately is that the acceleration in the demo one is so smooth and the engine sound through the gears sounds so much smoother than my own. I'd noticed that mine appeared to have a distinct metallic 'tappety' noise as the revs increased and its totally absent in the demo I have. Also, the onset of turbo boost is really smooth in the demo. In mine, when I accelerated the boost would increase temporarily to about 0.8 bar, then drop and then start rising again. Any ideas?
The main problem with my own 159 is that an actuator valve that allows air into the cylinders keep jamming open. Could this be the cause of all the above symptoms and/or has any other 2.4 JTDm driver noticed this effect with the turbo? I can't help fearing Ive been landed with a friday afternoon special.
One other thing that baffles me as well are the strange noises that emanate for ~ 1 minute from under the bonnet after you switch the car off. Any idea what thats all about?
