159 continues to frustrate
With 9.5 K on the 159 gremlins are still appearing. I was accelerating up a hill and the power dropped like a stone. Up came the check engine sign and I pulled over. The car was running on all cylinders but pretty down on power. Went back to Alfa in Belfast and their diagnostics pinpointed an intermittent actuator failure. In simple terms, the engine allows more air during acceleration and then the actuator valve sticks open. There appears to be some obstructive mechanical problem at the valve linkage at the rear of the engine whereby the lever that moves the valve is prevented from moving back into plac- nice design eh? The net result is that a large portion of the top end of the engine will have to be stripped away to get to the problem. So its booked in for repair in 2 weeks time.
In the interim, when the car does this, its a matter of switching it on and off a few times to get the valve to reset!!! Alfas, dont ya just luv em!!!!
