To say that the fasteners 'screw' into the carpet is a bit missleading, in my experience, they either snap or they will not go in far enough, in any case you would need to drill a hole first. The best way to fit them is to put the carpet mat where you want it and drill in the centre through the two holes, use a 4 or 5mm drill bit. Move the mat to one side, then drill a hole 7mm in dia, it sounds large but it needs to be. You can now screw the fastener in as far as its meant to go. Reminds me I need to do them in the Brera.
