Alarm / Starting problem
Just to check the issue I had this morning
Went out to car as normal, pressed unlock on the key, doors unlocked but the alarm started going off - wouldn't stop at all, tried all buttons on both keys (spare and main)
Tried starting the car, it started fine..oddly - alarm still going
Bear in mind this is 7.30 in the morning! I'm not very popular now in the street!
Tried unplugging the battery negative...no good, alarm kept going
This went on for 15 minutes until the alarm just stopped for whatever reason. I then reconnected the battery and tried to start the car..no go, just all dashboard on then a click when pressing the button
Thought well...might as well phone the AA make use of membership - little did I know we didn't have home start...£75 later the guy arrives, tries to start it, no go. He puts a battery booster on it and sure enough it starts!
Runs for a bit and the guy tests the battery, it's getting a charge from the alternator, and he says the battery is reading as healthy.
You need a new battery you might say! I would probably agree! But what I'm wondering is
a) what was the deal with the alarm going off uncontrollably?
b) why did the car start during said uncontrollable alarm incident?
c) why is it reading as being healthy? I hadn't used the car since Friday night, so approx 3 days it was sitting with no use - it's not been THAT cold either
Drive to work approx 20 miles each way and it seems to be ok but I'm terrified to arm the alarm now! Is this normal?!
