Transponder Key Issue

I wonder if anyone has experienced anything similar to this.

I have an Alfa 159 2.4 and about a year ago the central locking stopped working with one of the keys. I would press the key buttons and nothing. It still worked fine with the other Key, but after about 4-5 weeks that one stopped working as well. I have changed batteries in both keys and also got a new code from the Alfa garage to reassign the keys etc etc, but still nothing’s worked.

I have taken it to an my mechanic – an ex Alfa Master Tech and he plugged the car into his software and he says that the information it feeds back suggests the transponder unit (receiver) suggests it thinks a button on one of the keys is permanently depressed – in other words, the transponder receiving unit itself is knackered. Trouble is, he said it would cost about £1k to buy and fit and I can’t find anything about buy a new transponder unit online or even anyone else that sells them second hand. Have any of you by any chance come across anything like this before?

Any help very much appreciated!

Thanks - RP
