Drove down to see a red QTronic today, fully loaded, because if it was all my choice, I'd have a red one. Anyway it was pretty tidy inside and out, seemed to run fine, crap brakes and something knocking like a rear droplink or maybe a spring. I wasn't buying today, but when I was driving back I started wondering what the point of an auto is.
I know very little about driving automatics, so apologies if what I'm asking is thick as muck.
So it seems if you're in drive and you come to a standstill, you have to keep your foot on the brake otherwise the car rolls on. So if you were in a traffic jam, this would probably be more hassle than knocking a manual out of gear and sitting there relaxing your legs. So you could knock the auto to neutral, but again, you'd have to keep doing this in stop start traffic or keep your foot on the brake. Or can u keep the Qtronic in drive, come to a standstill, put the handbrake on and take your foot off the footbrake?
I love the aesthetics of the auto gear shifter and paddle shifts, but I have to say, it was a bit uninvolving unless I was giving it some, sort of not connected and not knowing what was going on with the car and not being able to grab it by the horns so to speak. It's probably just because an Auto is new to me, I'd get used to it.
Really impressed with the manners of the 2.4, there were times I couldn't hear the engine, but there were other times.....
Good thing is, I'm not just after a QTronic anymore, so my search should be easier.
In case I was to move on this one, is there anyone in the Southampton area that knows their stuff engine wise on these diesels and is up for earning a few quid one Sat or Sun?. FSH 70k by the way.
