Direct warranties

Forgive me as I am sure is is old ground.

My 1.9 jtdm has the dreaded gearbox whine so will likely need a rebuild at some point.

Does anyone have experience of claiming from Warrantywise, Warrantydirect etc etc. as there is advice from others on here with the same gearbox problem to take out a warranty ASAP.

Obviously mine is a pre existing problem, so does that affect things, do I have to declare it etc etc?

I would hate to pay £500 pr so and then find out I couldn't claim for whatever reason.

Any ideas?

As a second thought, if I have a noisy gearbox, does that constitute a claim, or would I have to wait for it to fail?

No warranties cover pre existing faults otherwise none of us would ever have garage costs over and above cost of the cheapest warranty needed for the particular fault, so just keep it quiet, take out a warranty, leave it for a while and then make a claim, saying that the fault has only just appeared! Honest.

However, if it was diagnosed by the last garage that MOT'd/serviced the car, then the warranty company might check these records so don't bother if it showed up as a fault on the last service or MOT.

Which company is best to use I'm still trying to find out. Have only seen AA recommended, but like I say, I have no idea which is best.
