Starting the car issues.

Have had an odd problem the last 2 mornings trying to start the car.

Have put the key in and the dash lights up as per usual. But when I press the clutch and the start button to start the car instead of that happening everything turns off (as if Iíve taken the key out.) Yesterday I left it for 10 mins to phone AA as I thought it was a flat battery, but when I went out to it again it started. However it had reset my radio. (I had a new HU fitted about 2 years ago, sou could tell as the colour had reset to white on the display.) and I couldnít open the boot. Oh and the ďhave engine checkedĒ light and error message came on. Drove to work and the car was fine. Coming home it started first time and the engine error light didnít light up, or error message appear. Went out in the evening too and gain, no problems.

This morning similar thing happened. Key in. Try to start it and it just goes dead. Pressing that start button didnít even relight the dash and neither did taking the key out and putting it back in. I locked and unlocked tha car and then tried to start it again and it did. Radio was reset again and this time an error message appear saying something about radiator fluid! But it appeared and disappeared so quick I didnítí get time to read it all. No ďhave engine checked message though and little engine light in the dash didnít light up. Again. drove to work fine.

I had a new battery last Jan. It has a little charge indicator on it and that is green, showing that it should be fine.

Has anyone any ideas?

Itís a 07 plate lusso sportwagon by the way.

Thanks in advance.

It does sound rather like a battery about to die problem, is it possible for you to get place you got battery from to check it, especially if it is still in warranty.

Check under the battery, there is the main connection to the chassis, a few people have reported it loose, though don't think the symptoms are quite the same, worth a check (and other connections).

if the battery isn't dead (you can get it tested for this) then I would too check the earth strap that links to the chassis / wheel arch.

My vote is on the battery.
I started to have similar weird electrical problems.
1st visit by the AA, they said all was fine with the battery.
1 week later, again, wouldn't start and the test said the battery was not fine.
New battery fitted no more problems.

How old is your battery? Mine was around 4 years old before it failed.

Are you sure the clutch pedal is full depressed when you press the Start button? I can recreate this effect easily by just lifting my foot slightly off the clutch pedal as I try to start the car. It seems to go dead and the key has to be removed and re-inserted.
