2.4 oil change advice

The car has done 11000 Kms since a new engine fitted in August 2012. The service info says I have another 15k before a service is due, no oil change light either. 90% of my driving is done on roads with very little traffic, as the car loves in a country area of SW France with little traffic and I'm very seldom in a traffic jam. Car is always warmed up thoroughly before it gets given any welly.

Being old school I am not feeling comfortable with not doing an oil change.

Should I believe the cars computer or should I just go ahead and have an oil change?

From my knowledge, the oil should be changed each year, even thought the number of kilometers covered is modest.

Change the oil ever 5,000 miles. With fully synthetic oil. Due to the complicated emission issues o. The modern diesel engine I have just learned the engine is under double whammy attack from egr soot in the oil and due to regenerations to clean the dpf diesel in the engine oil. What ever the manufacturer say if you want to get 200,000
Miles change the engine oil regularly everu 5 max 7,000 miles.

The only way to know for sure is to have an oil analysis. You didn't say what oil you are using, it makes a big difference. I would suspect with your easy driving and using oil of the correct approvals you could go a little further, maybe up to 15,000km but I would not run out the full OEM interval, that's just too long. Oil is cheap at the end of the day.

If you don't do much mileage , say less than 10,000 miles a year then oil change plus filter every year . In any case on any car I would at least half the advised mileage advice and don't use cheap oil . The manufacturers like to claim these huge service intervals because they believe it makes selling cars easier , low maintenance etc . My view is that engines are VERY expensive but oil is peanuts cheap by comparison and engines like clean oil not dirty OR you'd be filling them with dirty from the start

I bought my 2.4 at 46,000 miles and it had been serviced at 42,000 miles --- first job I did was change the oil/filter . In September this year it had done 53,000 and it got done again.
