There have been a few threads about people hating the 159 auto wipers, I am most certainly one with both feet firmly in that camp. I have tried the cream cleaner on the windscreen, the new wipers, then the new Bosch wipers, all the tricks under the sun to make them work properly, but they still wipe whenever they feel like it regardless of the weather
Please don't turn this into a thread explaining why I am wrong, I don't know how to use them, my sensor is broken or anything else - can we please keep this thread for those who truly believe the Alfa auto wipers are indeed the work of Satan himself
I have managed to completely disable the auto function and the wipers now work on a timed intermittent. This is a bit of a surprise as with the auto wipers I was sure the 4 positions on the switch did nothing other than make a 'click' noise when you selected the next one, they certainly made bugger all difference to the system
Only downside is that the auto headlights function stops working too. But, if you're anything like me, you'll probably find them bloody annoying and never use them anyway
You can go the complete bodge route, which is to pop the cover off above the mirror and disconnect the multi-plug. This will however disable the auto dipping/tinting mirror and auto headlight sensors in the process, while bringing you up two warning messages every time you put the key in the ignition.
To do this, slip a thin blade into the join between the top and bottom halves of the mirror cover and pop it outover. Then disconnect the white plug.
