Got my 159 today
Ten days late but worth it. It's 2.4JTD, Oceanic Black with black leather and over the top toys - Sat Nav, elec seats, Xenons, 18" wheels, 60/40 split seats, 10 CD changer. Bonus is I didn't realise the seats are heated or that the sat nav comes with a phone.
All expectations realised in terms of engine, fittings, the drive, the looks, etc. It is excellent in almost all respects and better than the new 320 I had as a courtesy car for 3 weeks recently.
V pleased with colour and worries about dark cabin dispelled as black set of really well by aluminium trim. Also pleased about 18" - gives sporty ride but not uncomfortable and similar to my previous 540 Sport. They look great and fill the holes really well while wider tyres add to overall impression.
The engine is as everyone has said: superb. It is audible on start and tickover but not while running unless driven hard when it sounds spot on. My first diesel and getting used to it but really impressed by the incedible torque and pace from 10 mph upwards.
Gearbox great though 1st too narrow for my liking. The drive and handling excellent though there is some wind noise around the windscreen and road noise is a little more than should be - no doubt due in part to 18 tyres - Pirelli pzeronero. The car runs on rails and, contrary to some criticism, does not roll. Suspension and balance spot on.
Comfortable seats with masses of adjustments, logical stalk controls though they don't have the feel of top quality. Sat Nav looks great and works very well though display not up to the one in the BM and I suppose all controls slightly lack quality compared to BM.
Stunning looks inside and outside - better than I remebered from test drive - solid, stylish, modern, DIFFERENT, assertive with a touch of agression.
Brakes are excellent and better than others I've experienced.
Downside - mentioned noise above and some less than top class controls.
The paintwork has a quite noticable orange peal effect and I have been back to the garage about this and they are checking it out. I wonder if this is an Alfa trait since other cars at the dealers, new and used, seem to have it to a degree. Perhaps the colour makes it seem worse than it is or I may be being overly picky. It does seem excessive for an expensive car.
Any views or experiences on this paintwork issue???
Anyway I must get off for a drive - will think of a reason when I am out!!!!
