I am in my third week of happy ownership of a spider. New to Alfas, I bought it just because I like the looks
. Now to the point.
I live in a condo with a common gate that has a locking mechanism that is sticking out of the ground in such a way that I touch it with the belly of my car every single time I go through the gate. Which is very annoying since I use the spider as a daily drive. Of course my car is the only one with this problem.
So I had an idea that a way to rise the car would be to put taller tires on it. I have now 225/50 R17
with wheel radius 328mm
(by wheel radius I mean rim+tire semi-diameter).
Some people on this forum put 245/40 R19 which have wheel radius 339mm. I do not want 19" wheels because the car is hard enough already. I mention this because it ensures me that such radius fits and does not create any problem.
I could keep my rims and put 225/55 R17
tires on them which would give 339mm
wheel radius as well . So the car would sit circa 1cm higher (I did check with my insurance is ok and do not really care about cops).
Now my question to people who did change their wheels for bigger ones, is the difference in ground clearance noticeable
? Or would I just blow money for nothing?
Just to complete information I checked all "legal" sizes:
215/55 R16 = 321mm
225/50 R17 = 328mm
235/45 R18 = 334mm
235/40 R19 = 335mm
Thanks for your opinion!
