Spider 2.4 JTDM Fuel econonmy & reliabilty

Looking to get a 2.4 Spider, just test driven one .. couple of questions for you guys.

Fuel Economy
Test drive was about 5 miles .. start/stop around a town ..got a couple of good stretches. Revved it quite a bit, but also some smooth driving. The mpg avg on the trip was 21mpg. Does this sound about right. I will be doing alot of motorway miles .. and hope to get over 30-35mpg on average ? Just want to check if on a revved short test drive the 21mpg sounds ok ?

The car (2008) had done 39k miles, last year only 3k. The dealer just hd to replace the alternator & battery. Should i be concerned about this in anyway .. or just grateful that its now been done !

Seems like the best idea given comments on this forum. Alfatune sound great. Can anyone comment on their expereince with insurance companies .. how much extra premium. I've quoted 250 for the std set-up, but wondering how much a remap is likely to concern them.

Any help/advice welcomed .. just love the Spider, and trying to convinve myself that I can use for the approx 12k miles/annum I will do.

Mine isn't the 2.4 litre, but when I approached my insurance company about a remap it was about 100 to add it. The main thing to be careful of is quoting BHP. If the remap adds 30% extra, a lot of companies will no longer touch it. There looks to be different levels based upon the increase by %age.

You must have been really hammering it to get only 21 mpg .
I probably get that in my 2.2 petrol.

I'm sure others will advise better, there does seem to be a hell of a lot of diesel owners on here...

Have the 2.4 diesel in a 159, assuming it's the same engine, for motorway miles I would definitely expect over 33 - 35 mpg depending on the length of the journey.

I get about 28.9 on average as I would do a lot of town driving, although when I do manage get some motorway miles I would tend to go into the 40s.

For a short test drive around town 21 sounds about right to be honest, depending on how you drove it and how much stop/starting you had to do.

Hope this helps.

My 2.4 spider averages, according to inboard computer, 30-31mpg.
I do brim to brim test and got 31mpg over mixed driving types.
Drive to Manchester and back from north wales early this AM I got 39mpg on trip computer. That was on cruise at 75mph

It cost me about 200 extra to insure my car after it was re-mapped with L&V.

Thanks guys, seems like it was ok .. decided not to go for that one as I think I'll hold out for the 210bhp. I hope to get early to mid 30's on a long run, so this sounds ok. Cheers
