Anyone used AO to sell their Alfa?

I'm getting a company car in December so unfortunately my beloved 159 LE has to go I've never sold a car privately having driven the previous 3 until their dying days so just starting to look at the best way to shift it.
I looked at the classifieds on here but all the cars seem to have been viewed hundreds of times and not sold.......anyone here sold successfully through this site or am I better bunging it on Autotrader?
The car has a dpf delete and remap so I figured people looking on here would be more accepting of that.......

I sold a 166 through here. The only car that I managed to sell.

I find pistonheads or ebay best. Autotrader is too expensive.

My personal view is that selling vehicles via owners forums rarely works - which is not to be mean about AO or any other forum at all - it is just the nature of what they are.

They're owners forums, so owners gather here, which suggests they've already got a vehicle as opposed to looking for one in the majority of cases.

Only rarely will someone come to a forum looking to buy a car, although they may come looking for advice on buying one, so you're looking for those rare few that visit to search the classifieds to buy or an existing owner looking to upgrade (existing 156 owners possible in case of the 159) or someone after a second Alfa (commonly referred to as suicide by Alfa!).

Personal opinion.

I've had success with selling cars privately via ebay - although their prices of recent have gone up considerably, so expect a sizable bill come the end of the month!

You may have success with social media, there are often a lot of groups on facebook for selling cars so you could try advertising it via that, which is at least free!

Previous Alfas:
1999 156 1.8TS Sport Pack 3
2001 166 3.0 V6 24V Super
2003 156 GTA 3.2 V6 24V
2005 156 1.9 JTDM-Jet Sport
2008 159 1.9 JTDM Lusso

Current Alfas:
1997 GTV 2.0TS Lusso
2001 147 1.6TS Lusso

Yeah as it's free I think I'll put it on here, you never know - if it doesn't sell at least I can enter the 'most viewed but not sold' league!
Been looking on Pistonheads, Autotrader and Ebay - bit confused by Ebay, looks like it should just be 14.99 for a classified but possibly far more expensive for auction.
Truth is I don't really want to get rid of it but I'm not going to turn down a free 3 series msport!! (well it'll actually about 1200 per year in P11d benefits but that's a bargain in my book as includes servicing / tyres etc). Maybe in a couple of years I can get a Giulia

Not sure where others look, but I do look at the classifieds on AO, it's just a lot of the descriptions are really lacking and some don't have photos, maybe this is because of personal MB usage.

Pistonheads search engine is much better than it used to be, but it's still no good for me when I want to narrow my search. For me, Autotrader is way better for search parameters, Ebay works well too. I think my only complaint would be that the cars i want are over my budget, I'm not sure who's fault that is.

I bought a Brera on here for a mate, but never sold owt.

Last 3 Alfas I sold all went to traders specialising in them. Though that only works if the car is the right colour, spec, condition etc.

Private buyers for these cars are few and far between.

Brera S

Sold a couple of cars on eBay and it's almost always the first place I look when wondering about car values (usually looking at things I can't afford).

My Brera got a decent enough price on there, but only because it was a little bit different as there tends to be loads of whatever generic model you are selling. An LE as least is a little off the norm, so you may have luck in general.

Well I've found an indie that seems interested so I'll stick it on AT, EBay and here and see what happens, then I've got them as a back up at trade price if it doesn't sell before the new car arrives. Gutted to be selling!
