A few basic things you need to watch out for:
Cambelt, should be done more frequently than the book recomends (around 50k (miles (not sure where you are based!)) should be ok)
Front tyres, check the inner edges for tyre wear, get the tracking done, set to zero (i.e straight ahead)
Check the power steering fluid, it should be green, if red, change asap (will lead to steering rack failure).
Learn a bit about EGRs, DPFs, and MAPs, then give them a good clean.
Front bonnet, and front of rear wheel arches (stone chips)
front subframe, watch out for corrosion.
