3 years of 2nd hand 159 ownership
Today, I have had my 159 1.9 SW lusso for 3 years. I often see questions on this site from prospective new owners worried about buying a lemon. So I thought I would share my 3 years , warts and all.
The car is a 2008 one and it had just under 50,000 miles it was 2 and a half years old and cost me 13k from a main dealer.
My first scare was when the DPF failed about 6 weeks short of the warranty running out, however Alfa coughed up and I was a happy bunny! About a year later, the light above the rear number plate went and cost £1.50 to replace.
The car went through the first 2 MOTs without even an advisory, then my first real bill. The rear passenger window had a broken mechanism and cost me £200 to fix. Not too bad in over 2 years of driving though.
This year I had an awful noise when I turned the steering wheel, but only after I'd been driving for a few minutes. This needed a new PS fluid reservoir and new fluid, cost was about £175. Then for the first time the MOT actually cost me more than the £50, I needed new wipers.
That is it, now , I have had it serviced and the cambelt/waterpump done and it needs diesel and tyres as do most cars. But, if I could go back, would I change what I bought? NEVER and I cannot think of any other family friendly car I would have in its place if I were out looking for a new car and 13k to play with.
In short, 3 fantastic years of Alfa ownership. If you want one, make sure its been serviced fully and get the best one your budget allows.
