On top of a myriad of other problems, my clutch pedal has started sticking to the floor, frequently, which prevents me changing gear. I have to pull over, turn the engine off and then on again, to release it. This will not be safe for me to drive on the motorways...! It's a real struggle to get under it to pull it up manually, and does not always work without turning the engine off and on again.
Before I take it into a local general garage (my local Alfa indy is proving difficult to get hold of at the moment, and I'm in a hurry to get my car roadworthy), does anybody have any ideas what this is likely to be, and likely cost to resolve?
If it's relevant, I have recently (a few months back) had the brakes replaced all round, and had the brake fluid replaced with new high-performance stuff, but the level does not seem to have dropped.
To get it through an MOT, it has also recently had the handbrake adjusted, and it's been ragged hard before its emissions test. So possibly related to this problem?
Alternatively, it has scraped hard over a speed bumb recently - could this have cracked something relevant to the clutch operation?
Thanks all in advance for any help. Anyone in the Fareham area (or Southampton/Portsmouth) who fancies taking a look in exchange for bevvies and bacon sandwiches?
