Re: Brera: Car Magazine test drive
I also agree that it is not a like for like comparison.
I guess it does make a point about the Brera's overpricing but still the 350Z is horrific inside - its all full of woeful plastic so definitely looks much cheaper anyway when you are sat inside one. A comparison against a TT is also may be not the best - the TT will very soon be replaced so the Brera will need to be compared against the new.
Current coupes to fairly compare against are difficult - we have the new BMW 3 coupe coming out soon but that is not a true sports Coupe, rather a saloon base with 2 doors (price is going to be similar, if not more expensive, it certainly will not look as good, but will undoubtedly be quicker). Then there's the Cayman but that's £45,000 plus once you've spec'd it so that's it another league. 350Z and RX8 - RX8 has a better quality interior and is more practical than a 350Z but is then slower in a straight line and has got a pathetic range - both are considerably cheaper than the Brera but not of the same pedigree. Here's another one to think on - if a 3.2 is going to be £32,000 plus then for that money you can buy a 2004 TVR T350 which looks as good and is just a little quicker. It will also sound as good if not better and have better residuals. Of course it may fall apart and/or the engine blow up (although the newer TVRs are far more reliable) but hey you can't have everything!
